BDO in Indonesia secures official SBTi approval for net-zero targets
We are pleased to announce that our near-term and long-term science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets have been formally validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This milestone marks a significant step forward in our sustainability journey towards a net-zero economy.
The SBTi has rigorously evaluated and approved our science-based net-zero targets, which include the following commitments:
The approval of these climate targets by the SBTi underscores our commitment to leading the transition towards sustainable business practices. As a professional services firm, there is a clear recognition that corporate responsibility extends beyond delivering exceptional client services; operations must actively align with global efforts to limit global warming.
From a strategic perspective, securing SBTi validation reflects a determination to lead by example. As an organisation that advises other enterprises on transitioning to sustainable operations, it is vital to credibly measure, manage and reduce its own carbon footprint first. This concrete step is intended to inspire and encourage more businesses in Indonesia to accelerate their structured and measurable decarbonisation agendas.
Aligning emissions reduction targets with science-based standards ensures that decarbonisation steps are grounded in a credible and measurable approach. While challenges will undoubtedly evolve, we remain dedicated to consistently developing and implementing initiatives that support these long-term reduction targets up to 2050.
Driving a low-carbon future
Decarbonisation stands as a core pillar of the firm's ongoing sustainability strategy. Continuous efforts will be made to identify and execute material emissions reduction opportunities across all operational activities. In full alignment with the SBTi framework, any residual emissions remaining at the time the net-zero target is reached will be addressed through neutralisation mechanisms that strictly comply with the principles and requirements of prevailing standards.
About the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global climate action organisation that empowers companies worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. Partnering with CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the SBTi develops rigorous standards and guidance. These frameworks enable corporate entities to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets aligned with climate science, aiming to limit global warming and achieve net-zero by 2050 at the latest.
How BDO can help your company
In parallel with these internal commitments, BDO in Indonesia is fully dedicated to accompanying and supporting other businesses as they navigate the transition towards sustainable operations. Through a highly specialised team of experts, comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) advisory services are available to help your company succeed. BDO is ready to assist your organisation in designing robust sustainability roadmaps, conducting precise greenhouse gas inventory calculations for Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions, and preparing credible, transparent Sustainability Reports that comply fully with both local and global reporting standards.
The SBTi has rigorously evaluated and approved our science-based net-zero targets, which include the following commitments:
- Near-term target: A commitment to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2025 base year, alongside the active measurement and reduction of Scope 3 emissions
- Long-term target: A commitment to achieve net-zero status across the organisation by 2050. As part of this goal, the firm pledges to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2025 base year.
The approval of these climate targets by the SBTi underscores our commitment to leading the transition towards sustainable business practices.
