Dr. Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM Co., Ltd., visited BDO in Indonesia to discuss cooperation in achieving a greener and more sustainable industry in Indonesia

GEM, also known as "Green-Eco-Manufacture", is the first company in China to propose the green concept of "limited resources, unlimited recycling". GEM Co., Ltd. was founded 20 years ago in Shenzhen by Dr. Xu Kaihua, a professor at Central South University (CSU) who is also the director of the National Research Center for Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Technology, vice president of the Recycling Economy Association, vice president of the Renewable Resource Recycling Association, and vice president of the Industrial Material Recycling Association in China.

After meeting with President Joko Widodo at the G20 Summit in Bali in late 2022, Dr. Xu Kaihua recently visited the BDO office in Indonesia in September 2023 in connection with the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta. BDO in Indonesia is a member of BDO International Limited and is part of the BDO international network of independent member firms.

The Indonesian government is currently actively promoting various initiatives to achieve its net zero carbon target by 2060 or earlier, such as optimizing the use of renewable energy, restoring forests, and cooperating with global partners. These initiatives are in line with the goals that Dr. Xu Kaihua has long been pursuing in the fields of waste processing, manufacturing recycling, new and renewable energy materials, and carbon emission reduction to support net zero. Through GEM, Dr. Xu Kaihua has invested in developing a research and training center for science, technology, and culture related to the metallurgic and new energy material industries in Indonesia, in an effort to support Indonesia's carbon neutrality target.

Through this meeting, BDO in Indonesia, with its expertise and experience as a public accounting firm and a one-stop integrated consulting services provider, is ready to support Dr. Xu Kaihua and GEM in their efforts to help transform various industries in Indonesia into greener and more sustainable companies in order to realize the country's goal of reaching its net zero carbon target by 2060.

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Prof. Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM Co., Ltd., for visiting BDO in Indonesia. It is a great honor for us to host a world-leading waste recycling, new energy materials, and urban mining company. GEM's expertise is aligned with our mission, and we are very excited about the opportunities for collaboration that may be realized in the future. Together, we aspire to drive innovation, sustainability, and industrial growth in Indonesia. Stay tuned for exciting developments from this journey together,” said Wawat Sutanto, the Executive Chairman of BDO in Indonesia.
