National Social and Healthcare Security for the Workforce (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) Program for Internship Program Employees

On January 14, 2019, National Social and Healthcare Security for the Workforce (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) has issued an announcement letter number B/502/012019 concerning the Implementation of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Program for Internships Program Employees.

The letter is a follow-up to the Announcement Letter Number B/34111/102018 dated October 16, 2018, which was stipulated the same matter. On both announcements, BPJS Kesehatan reminded companies to register their internship program employee to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan immediately.

Regulatory Background

This matter is regulated in Law Number 24 of 2011 concerning National Social and Healthcare Security (BPJS), Article 14, which stated that "Every person, including foreign workers who have worked for a minimum of 6 (six) months in Indonesia, is required to be registered as participants in the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan program. The internship program employees shall be registered as participants in the Working Accident Protection (Jaminan Kecelakaan Kerja/JKK) and Death Protection (Jaminan Kematian).
